n.
1. a person or device that puts heads on pins, nails, rivets, etc.
2. a machine that takes off the heads of grain and sends them up an inclined plane into a wagon
3. a pipe, tube, etc. that brings together other pipes to direct the flow of a fluid through them, as in an exhaust system
4. in word processing, a line or lines of text, typically consisting of the topic, date, page number, etc., printed at the top of each page of a document
5. Informal a headlong fall or dive
6. Carpentry a wooden beam, as in flooring, placed between two long beams with the ends of short beams resting against it: see FRAME
7. Masonry a brick or building stone laid across the thickness of a wall so that a short end is exposed in the face of the wall
8. Soccer a shot or pass made by hitting the ball with one's head, esp. with one's forehead
